  1. This week I’m going to focus on the subject of anger because this is often a very misunderstood emotion. We hear a lot about anger management but the real key to managing anger is to find its nature of origin. It appears that before we take an medication, or work hard at controlling anger it might be helpful to take an inventory of the feelings before the anger begins.

For example, for some folks they may have simply been imprinted with the anger behavior as a young child. Maybe their caregivers were often angry and so the only two emotions the young child see demonstrted are avoidance and isolating to the other extreme angry, with nothing in between. So as this child begins to grow up he or she may cope with stress and uncomfortable situations by repeating the behavior of the caregiver. So rather than learning how to control it, it is always helpful first to determine what is the origin of the behavior.

In another example we often find doctors perscribing medication to individuals who have extreme anger. When what often is behind the raging is an addiction of some sort. The stress of hiding the secret of addiction will often cause a raging anger which is sometimes triggered by frustration when the addict cannot control their external enviroment. This frustration will build to anger and at times rage.
